Position Overview

The School of Social Work at Norfolk State University is seeking applications for a pool of adjunct faculty members to teach in the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program. The selected candidates will be appointed as Adjunct Instructors.

Key Responsibilities

Adjunct faculty members will be responsible for delivering undergraduate courses in various domains including Field Education, Practice, Human Behavior, Policy, and Research. Responsibilities include:

  1. Conducting all scheduled classes and maintaining office hours.
  2. Preparing course syllabi in accordance with university standards.
  3. Distributing syllabi to students on the first day of class.
  4. Adhering to the course syllabi throughout the semester.
  5. Creating and assessing measurable learning outcomes to ensure curriculum alignment.
  6. Supporting student development through mentoring and engagement in academic activities.
  7. Maintaining accurate student records while upholding privacy standards.
  8. Participating in curriculum evaluation and faculty meetings.
  9. Completing additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Master’s degree in Social Work is required, with a preference for candidates holding a Social Work license.
2. Proven experience in teaching or supervising social work practices.
3. Knowledge of educational methodologies and theories.
4. Proficiency in utilizing technology and resources for course delivery.
5. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, suitable for diverse audiences.
6. Significant experience in teaching core curriculum areas in an accredited social work program.
