About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our inpatient dementia assessment and treatment unit, Ruskin, based at the Carleton Clinic in Carlisle.

Ruskin is a 15-bed unit that provides a comprehensive and holistic assessment of older adults' physical, psychological, behavioral, social, and spiritual needs through validated assessment tools and multidisciplinary working.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and manage a caseload of service users with complex Occupational Therapy needs, diverse presentations, and a range of mental health, physical health, neurological conditions, cognitive, and/or learning disabilities.
  • Develop collaborative intervention plans with service users and carers, ensuring regular reviews to monitor progress and adapt as necessary.
  • Consider carer needs and involve carers and family in care planning where appropriate.
  • Deliver evidence-based Occupational therapy interventions.
  • Work as a member of the Multi-disciplinary Team to ensure high-quality individualized care, safety, and a commitment to promoting recovery and wellbeing and maximizing independence.
  • Coordinate treatment planning, interventions, reviews, and discharge planning.
  • Provide clinical supervision and leadership to staff as delegated by Clinical Lead.
  • Provide compassionate care based on empathy, kindness, respect, and dignity.
  • Incorporate a client-centered philosophy into clinical practice and client-centered collaborative care.

Person Specification
  • Recognized Occupational Therapy degree/qualification.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • Evidence of post-registration training in OT interventions relevant to the post.
  • Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, HCPC, and RCOT standards and other local and national initiatives.
  • Proven track record of post-registration clinical experience relevant to the post.
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of providing Occupational Therapy services.
  • Awareness of equal opportunities legislation and policies.
  • Experience of collaborative working across agencies and professional disciplines.
  • Proven ability to manage a clinical caseload in a flexible manner as required.
  • Experience of supervising students/non-registered staff.
