Transport Manager Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transport Manager to join our established management team at Ideal Personnel & Recruitment Solutions Limited.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and coaching a team of transport professionals to ensure that our company and customer expectations are met.

This role involves the compliance and efficient management of the transport function within our Operation Centre. The Transport Manager will be expected to hold a CPC (National or International) and will be named on the Operator's Licence, becoming the principal Operators Licence holder.

Main Responsibilities:
  • People Leadership: Recruiting, inducting, coaching and developing the transport team to succeed and grow.
  • Drive Operational Service: Ensuring the day-to-day transport function operates in line with service level agreements with the support of the General Manager.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Challenging the norm, fostering a culture of looking forward to improve the operation.
  • Cross Functional Working: Actively building relationships across the Operation Centre and wider business, ensuring support is available and performance isn't hindered or negatively impacted.
  • Legalities and Compliance: Ensuring that all fleet vehicles and teammates are compliant with all legal, regulatory and contractual compliance, including Drivers Hours and Working Time Directive, with the support of the Regional Transport Manager.
Requirements:
  • CPC (National or International) and full UK Driving Licence
  • Demonstrable people management and leadership experience
  • Customer service focused (both internal and external customers)
  • A positive, can-do attitude
  • Ability to motivate and engage teammates to succeed
  • Ability to multi-task within a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literate and familiar with computerised transport management systems
  • A proactive and flexible approach, able to use initiative and work independently
  • Able to develop a team and introduce new working practices
