The Healthcare Cleaning Operative plays a vital role in ensuring that the Trust maintains a hygienic, secure, and inviting atmosphere for patients, staff, and visitors alike.

Key Responsibilities

The Healthcare Cleaning Operative is tasked with a variety of cleaning responsibilities throughout all areas, including clinical sanitary zones and administrative spaces, in accordance with the specified cleaning protocols and standards outlined in Trust and departmental manuals. Key duties include:

  • Daily maintenance of floors through mopping, scrubbing, and buffing, as well as carpet shampooing.
  • Vacuuming of designated areas.
  • Damp dusting of fixtures and fittings.
  • Thorough cleaning of sanitary facilities, including toilets and bathrooms.
  • Cleaning of ward kitchens and associated kitchen equipment.
  • Assisting in meal service for patients, including beverage service and collection of used crockery post-meal.
  • Washing of jugs, vases, and similar items.
  • Proper disposal and segregation of waste materials.
  • Transporting soiled linen to the designated disposal area.
  • Changing bed and cubicle curtains in compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
  • Making beds in residential areas.
  • Cleaning of rooms and bed areas following infection outbreaks.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential Qualifications

  • A solid educational background in English and Mathematics.

Desirable Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 1 or 2 in support services or infection control.

Knowledge and Awareness

  • A strong understanding of confidentiality principles.
  • Awareness of high cleaning standards.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations.

  • Familiarity with Moving & Handling protocols.
