Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities

As a key member of the WGM Engineering Ltd team, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing management support on projects across the business in the design and optioneering exercises to develop initial client concepts or requirements into workable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal and external clients to identify their exact requirements and develop tailored solutions.
  • Attend site-based surveys to understand the needs of a given project, including meeting client representatives and gathering information and data to inform the optimum design solution.
  • Manage detailed design tasks to client stage gate and approval specifications, working closely with other disciplines on the project.
  • Oversee the production of design deliverables for specified projects, providing technical guidance and support to team members as required.
  • Review and approve design packages produced by other designers, ensuring they meet the required standards.
  • Present designs at internal review meetings and external client review meetings, such as HAZOP's and Technical Authority reviews.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in transformer/generator/switchgear/electrical installation design and selection, including equipment and system specifications, design schedules and calculations, GAs, SLDs, CBDs, earthing, technical design risk assessments, cost, and programme estimations.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in PLC/SCADA/Instrumentation/Telemetry assessment, selection, and design, as well as industrial networks and communication devices, including fieldbus technologies such as Profibus DP, Profibus PA, Ethernet, ProfiNet, etc.

Requirements and Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, the ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years of previous design experience, ideally within an electrical engineering or construction environment. As a Lead Designer, the successful candidate will have a solid background in electrical engineering, strong technical expertise, and experience in leading a team and managing and mentoring other members of the team. Strong communication skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and other stakeholders are essential for this role.
