About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Fire Protection Specialist to join our Technical Communities in the South West of England. As a Fire Protection Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting the UK Government's strategy of Net Zero 2050 by providing expertise in fire protection and safety.

Key Responsibilities

As a Fire Protection Specialist, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Identification of Risks
    • Using 3D models, calculation methodologies, and fire requirements to identify potential fire hazards and risks.
    • Performing temperature change calculations over time for simulated fires using specialized software.
    • Assessing the risk of damage to critical systems and infrastructure.
    • Monitoring and incorporating changes issued by engineering teams into models.
  • Fire Protection
    • Recommending fire protection solutions to prevent or minimize the risk of fire outbreaks.
    • Dividing buildings into zones for fire protection purposes.
    • Recommending fire detection and firefighting methods for rapid detection and response.
    • Performing fire protection calculations using specialized software.
    • Assessing and justifying departures from BS9999.
  • Qualifications, Knowledge & Key Skills
    • Qualification to degree level or equivalent in safety and/or fire protection technologies.
    • Knowledge of ETC-F (EPR technical code for fire).
    • Knowledge of and experience with UK Fire Regulations, including BS9999.
    • Calculations relating to fire protection and ability to work with calculation tools.
    • Ability to propose fire protection and detection solutions.
    • Software knowledge: Microsoft Office, MAGIC software, 3D viewer (Naviswork).
