We are currently seeking a Communications and Public Relations Specialist who will play a vital role in executing a comprehensive array of proactive marketing and communication strategies to support the achievement of the organization's corporate goals.

Main Responsibilities

1. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop annual marketing, media, and communication strategies aligned with established budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness to meet departmental objectives.

2. Design, execute, manage, and assess marketing initiatives to facilitate the realization of the annual marketing strategy.

This encompasses crafting key messages and content (including copywriting, coordinating visual media, and graphics), as well as online and offline advertising and media outreach.

3.

Regularly update the organization's website and assist digital communication teams with ongoing social media messaging for designated service areas.

4. Analyze the effectiveness of campaigns using various metrics and compile reports with actionable insights.

5.

Stay informed about service usage, trends, and sector developments to enhance marketing communication strategies.

6. Provide an on-call service outside of regular hours for media inquiries, emergencies, and service disruptions (on a rotational basis).

7. Proactively identify, organize, and leverage public relations opportunities to support organizational services or initiatives.

8.

Manage media relations, serving as the primary contact for external media inquiries, requests for PR support from internal clients, and promoting positive narratives about the organization.

9. Prepare Council Officers and Elected Members for media interactions, including interviews, by briefing them on relevant media issues.

10. Conduct research and draft press releases/statements in accordance with agreed key messages and organizational objectives.

11. Monitor local and regional media coverage daily, highlighting pertinent issues to the Senior Management Team.

12. Track media activity and generate media evaluation reports.

13. Develop and maintain a comprehensive media database.


Essential Criteria:
Applicants must possess:

Experience

A degree in a relevant field such as

Marketing, Communications, Business Studies, or an equivalent level 6 qualification as per the UK qualifications framework.

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

At least *2 years' experience in diverse Marketing and PR functions, including:

  • Creating and executing communication campaigns (both online and offline)
  • Producing and managing publications
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in public relations.
  • Strong planning and project management capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet tight deadlines.
  • A positive attitude with a solution-oriented, flexible, and enthusiastic approach.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Creativity and innovation to enhance service delivery.
  • A valid driving license or, if unable to drive due to a disability, access to suitable transportation to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Availability to perform duties outside of standard working hours as needed, with additional hours compensated according to organizational policies.

Desirable Criteria:
1. Membership in the Chartered Institute of Public Relations or Chartered Institute of Marketing.

2. Previous experience in a Marketing and PR role within Local Government.
