About the Role
The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a High-Energy Laser Scientist for an industrial placement opportunity. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects, develop your skills and knowledge in laser science and technology, and contribute to the advancement of our research goals.
About the Team
Our team is responsible for the development and operation of high-energy laser systems, including the DiPOLE laser, which is a world-leading, high-energy laser amplifier technology. We are a collaborative and dynamic team, working together to achieve our research goals and push the boundaries of what is possible in laser science and technology.
About the Placement
The industrial placement will provide you with the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including the development of new laser systems, the testing and characterization of existing systems, and the analysis of data from our experiments. You will have the opportunity to work with our team of scientists and engineers, learn from their expertise, and contribute to the advancement of our research goals.
About the Skills and Qualifications
To be eligible for this placement, you must be currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement. You must also have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement and be able to commence employment in summer 2025. You will need to have good problem-solving skills, good time management skills, and be highly motivated and able to work independently. Experience working in laboratories, experience with lasers/optics, and experience with coding for data analysis are desirable but not essential.
