Inventory Management Accountant with SPAR

SPAR is pleased to present an exciting opportunity for a skilled Inventory Financial Analyst to become part of our dynamic finance team. In this pivotal role, you will assist the Finance Manager in overseeing inventory analytics, stocktake organization, reconciliation, and the valuation of inventory exceeding £10 million.

Your collaboration will extend across various departments, engaging with directors, department leaders, and finance experts, placing you at the core of our operations. This position is crucial for enhancing our business efficiency, enabling us to streamline period-end stock reconciliations and minimize waste.

As part of your responsibilities, you will ensure compliance with external audit standards for inventory reporting and provide essential inventory data to internal stakeholders to facilitate informed decision-making.

In addition to regular reporting and audit responsibilities, you will focus on project initiatives and process enhancements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct monthly inventory reconciliations with the General Ledger.
  • Organize interim and year-end stocktakes for both Wholesale and Retail.
  • Guarantee adherence to all external audit requirements.
  • Oversee store stocktakes, including year-end, interim, seasonal, and ad hoc counts.
  • Collaborate closely with Trading and Purchase Ledger to ensure timely updates of stock pricing.
  • Evaluate stock provision policies and their implications on the Profit & Loss statement.
  • Identify risks and opportunities within the inventory balance sheet.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned by the Finance Manager.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Relevant Accounting Qualification: Such as CIMA, ACCA, or ICAEW.
  • Post-qualification experience in a substantial retail setting.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proficient in managing relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders, each with unique objectives.
  • Analytical and Excel Skills: Strong analytical capabilities and advanced proficiency in Excel, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Independence and Teamwork: Ability to work effectively both autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Workload Management: Competence in efficiently managing workload and addressing potentially conflicting priorities.
  • Proactive Attitude: A hands-on approach with a positive, proactive mindset.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

  • Inventory Finance Experience: Previous experience in managing inventory finance.
  • Retail/FMCG Experience: Background in a large retail or fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) organization.
