Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Assistant to join our team at The University of Manchester. The successful candidate will be responsible for aiding in the construction and commissioning of a PELLIS hydrogen ion source aimed at specialized use in the production and diagnosis of hydrogen atoms in the ALPHA antihydrogen experiment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Aid in the design, installation, and testing of the PELLIS hydrogen ion source
  • Collaborate with the research team to develop and implement control and diagnostic software
  • Contribute to the development of mechanical and electrical systems associated with the source
  • Participate in the commissioning and operation of the source on a test chamber at CERN
  • Assist in the installation and operation of the source on a test experiment in advance of incorporation in the ALPHA experiment
Requirements
  • MSc or equivalent degree in physics, with a focus on accelerator science or related fields
  • Background knowledge on the principles and operation of charged particle sources and beam transport
  • Experience with mechanical modeling and electronics testing
  • Practical experience with particle tracking
