Position Overview

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is committed to enhancing health outcomes for expectant parents and their infants through a specialized Smoking Cessation Program.

As a Pregnancy Smoking Cessation Consultant, you will be responsible for providing both in-person and remote behavioral support, as well as administering pharmacotherapy in accordance with a tailored tobacco dependence care strategy.

Your role will involve the effective management of the smoking cessation program within the maternity department, ensuring that comprehensive, organized, and evidence-based care is consistently delivered to individuals referred during various stages of pregnancy.

You will also be expected to offer assistance in diverse environments, such as virtual consultations and community health clinics.

In addition, you will play a crucial role in achieving key performance indicators and reporting metrics related to tobacco dependency. Engaging in public health initiatives and community outreach to address health disparities will also be part of your responsibilities.

This position will initially be classified at Band 3 until you complete the necessary training and competencies required for a smoking cessation consultant.

Key Responsibilities

• Organize and manage your daily tasks independently while maintaining high-quality standards.

• Prioritize your workload based on service demands and individual needs, ensuring inclusivity and respect for diversity in all interactions.

• Collaborate closely with the Healthy Lifestyle Midwife and fellow Smoking Cessation Consultants.

• Respond to referrals, including self-referrals, into the smoking cessation program.

• Work with expectant mothers and individuals to determine the most suitable tobacco dependency treatment pathway.

• Document and report on activities and outcomes effectively.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential Knowledge

  • Understanding of the health implications associated with smoking.
