Job Title: Learning Support Practitioner-Horizons

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Practitioner to join our Horizons team at Barking & Dagenham College. As a key member of our team, you will provide essential support to learners with mild, moderate, and complex needs, ensuring they have the best possible chance of success.

About the Role:

This is a term-time only position (38 weeks per year), offering a competitive salary of £24,853-£26,882 pa inc London Weighting (pro rata'd to contracted hours, 38wpy). As a Learning Support Practitioner-Horizons, you will work under the supervision and guidance of the tutor, supporting students with learning difficulties and disabilities within the Horizons area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-to-one and group support, both direct and indirect, for students with learning difficulties and disabilities following foundation courses, primarily in the learning environment.
  • Work with the ALS Manager, LSP& EHCP Coordinator, Lead LSPs, and SENCO in advising teaching staff on appropriate strategies for working with students with learning difficulties and disabilities and complex needs.
  • Support the development of individualized learning plans and monitor learner progress, including attendance, behavior, and completion of vocational activity.
Requirements:
  • A level 2 or above qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
  • Proficient IT skills.
  • Level 2 English & Maths or equivalent.
  • Experience of providing effective coaching for students on an individual basis or in a group setting to support success and progression.
  • Demonstrate an ability to support, monitor, and track learner progress, including attendance, behavior, and completion of vocational activity.
  • Understanding of academic and vocational education in a College setting.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to raising the attainment and self-esteem of all students.
