Job Title: Archaeological Clerk of Works

Job Summary:

Unite People is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Archaeological Clerk of Works to join our team. As a Freelance Archaeological Clerk of Works, you will be responsible for providing professional advice to the project team on the progress of the archaeological programme on a major infrastructure project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise the client on the mitigation of the impacts of the development on the archaeological resource, including avoidance, micro-siting, design alternatives, or preservation through excavation and recording.
  • Liaise with all relevant bodies and individuals, including the developer, design teams, site contractors, local planning authorities, and stakeholders.
  • Carry out monitoring and excavations, prepare method statements, and produce regular reports on progress to the client and for planning authorities.
  • Examine issues, make practical decisions quickly, and prevent delays from escalating.
  • Build a positive working relationship between the ACow and the main contractor, designers, local authority curators, and other stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Experience of archaeological site works.
  • Qualified to degree level in archaeology or a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Membership of CIfA and/or other appropriate professional body.
