About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated sports journalist to join our team at The Athletic. As a Football Reporter, you will be responsible for covering Leeds United and providing high-quality, engaging content to our audience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a strong network of sources within the football industry, including players, coaches, and other key stakeholders.
  • Write compelling and informative articles, features, and analysis pieces that showcase your expertise and passion for the sport.
  • Conduct interviews with key figures in the football world, including players, coaches, and other experts.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest news and developments in the football world, and be able to break or advance news stories as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the team to produce high-quality content and achieve our editorial goals.
  • Develop and maintain a strong online presence, including social media and other digital platforms.
  • Participate in regular editorial meetings and contribute to the development of our content strategy.
  • Stay organized and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Be flexible and adaptable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in a sports journalism role, preferably covering football.
  • Strong knowledge of the football industry, including the Premier League and other top European leagues.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality content under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong online presence and social media skills, with the ability to engage with our audience and promote our content.
