About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated sports journalist to join our team at The Athletic. We're looking for someone who is passionate about telling unique and compelling stories about Leeds United and the world of football.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a strong network of sources within the football industry, including players, coaches, and other key figures.
  • Write high-quality, engaging articles that provide in-depth analysis and insight into the world of football.
  • Conduct interviews with key figures in the football industry, including players, coaches, and other experts.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest news and developments in the football world, and be able to break or advance news stories as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement story ideas and projects.
  • Develop and maintain a strong online presence, including social media and other digital platforms.
  • Participate in live journalism and other events as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of The Athletic's editorial strategy and direction.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience as a sports journalist or reporter.
  • Thorough knowledge of professional football and the Leeds United team.
  • Strong writing and reporting skills, with the ability to produce high-quality content under deadline.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and sources.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively.
