As a Sanitation Technician with the City of Edinburgh Council, you will play an essential role in our Facilities Management team. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To dispose of litter and recycling appropriately.
  • To clean all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture, fixtures, and fittings within designated buildings.
  • To maintain all sanitary areas, including toilets and showers, and replenish washroom supplies.
  • To perform emergency and reactive cleaning as necessary, such as graffiti removal and spill clean-up.
  • To ensure the care and cleanliness of all equipment utilized in performing these duties.
  • To undertake additional tasks as reasonably required related to the role, including supporting cleaning efforts in other facilities as needed.
  • The post holder will be expected to adhere to cleaning specifications and cooperate with performance evaluations to meet agreed standards.

*Facilities Management holds overall responsibility for keyholding to facilitate the opening and closing of serviced buildings. As part of the duties of a Sanitation Technician, you will be required to be a key holder, which typically includes operating security alarm systems when opening buildings, securing accessible windows and doors, turning off lights, and ensuring that premises are left safe and secure upon closing.

This position involves regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. The selected candidate will need to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be necessary. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the role will be contingent upon the satisfactory outcome of these pre-employment checks.
