As a Sanitation Technician with the City of Edinburgh Council, you will play a crucial role in our Facilities Management team. Your responsibilities will include providing essential cleaning services across our facilities to ensure they remain safe and hygienic environments for work and education. Key Responsibilities:

  • To empty waste and recycling bins.
  • To clean all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture, fixtures, and fittings within designated buildings.
  • To maintain cleanliness in all sanitary areas, restrooms, and showers, including replenishing washroom supplies.
  • To perform emergency and reactive cleaning as needed, such as graffiti removal and addressing accidental spills.
  • To ensure the care and cleanliness of all equipment used in the performance of these duties.
  • To undertake additional tasks as reasonably required related to the role, including supporting cleaning efforts in other buildings when necessary.
  • To adhere to cleaning specifications and cooperate with performance evaluations to meet overall agreed standards.

*Facilities Management is responsible for keyholding to facilitate the opening and closing of the buildings we service. As part of the duties of a Sanitation Technician, you will be required to be a key holder to perform these tasks. This typically includes operating security alarm systems when opening a building, securing accessible windows and doors, turning off lights, and ensuring that premises are left safe and secure upon closing.

This position involves regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. The selected candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be necessary. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the position will be contingent upon the satisfactory outcome of both pre-employment checks.
