Clinical Lead in Diabetes and Endocrinology

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Consultant Physician to join our team of experts in diabetes and endocrinology at University Hospital Wishaw. This is a replacement post following a retirement, and the successful candidate will join our existing team of Consultant Physicians and a locum specialty doctor in diabetes and endocrinology.
The job plan includes 2 PA's approved for academic research per week, 7 PA's for direct clinical care, and 1 for supporting professional activities. The successful applicant will be encouraged and supported to develop research interests and specialty/sub-specialty interests to complement our existing diabetes and endocrinology specialist services.
Our diabetes and endocrinology department is supported by a team of specialists, including 2 WTE diabetes specialist nurses, diabetes dietitians, and specialist podiatrists, as well as 2 endocrine nurse specialists who work across the three Lanarkshire hospitals. We have also expanded our non-medical workforce by employing and training an extended scope nurse practitioner in diabetes.
We provide a comprehensive diabetes and endocrinology service, including general endocrinology clinics, planned investigations, and medical day bed unit. Our team works closely with colleagues across the three Lanarkshire sites and has established MDT services, including diabetes technology MDT's, endocrinology MDT's, and weekly diabetic foot MDT's.
The successful applicant will be supported by consultant colleagues with research interests, research nurses, R&D management, and dedicated clinical research rooms onsite at UHW. We are committed to maximizing the level of high-quality, NHS ethics-approved health and care research being carried out in NHS Lanarkshire for the benefit of our patients, staff, and NHS Lanarkshire as a whole.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality clinical care to patients with diabetes and endocrinology conditions
- Develop and lead research projects in diabetes and endocrinology
- Contribute to the development of specialty/sub-specialty interests to complement our existing services
- Work closely with colleagues across the three Lanarkshire sites to provide a comprehensive diabetes and endocrinology service
Requirements:
- Consultant Physician with expertise in diabetes and endocrinology
- Strong research background and experience in diabetes and endocrinology
