Consultant Physician with Expertise in Diabetes and Endocrinology

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Consultant Physician to join our team at University Hospital Wishaw. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in diabetes, endocrinology, and academic research, and will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our department.
About the RoleThis is a replacement post following a retirement, and the successful candidate will join a team of three existing Consultants and one locum specialty doctor in diabetes and endocrinology. The job plan includes 2 PA's approved for academic research per week, 7 PA's for direct clinical care, and 1 for supporting professional activities.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-quality patient care in diabetes and endocrinology clinics, acute medical receiving, and in-patient care.
- Develop and implement research interests, with support from consultant colleagues, research nurses, and R&D management.
- Contribute to the development of our department, including the expansion of non-medical workforce and establishment of MDT services.
- Work closely with colleagues across the three Lanarkshire sites, including diabetes technology MDT's, endocrinology MDT's, and diabetic foot MDT's.
- Participate in general endocrinology clinics, planned investigations, and medical day bed unit.
- Support the development of diabetes subspecialty clinics, including young adult diabetes, diabetes transition, diabetic foot, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and insulin pump/technology.
- Contribute to the development of our department's research portfolio and act as local Principal Investigator in funded research studies.
The diabetes and endocrinology department is supported by 2 WTE diabetes specialist nurses, diabetes dietitians, and specialist podiatrists, as well as 2 endocrine nurse specialists who work across the three Lanarkshire hospitals. We have recently expanded our non-medical workforce by employing and training an extended scope nurse practitioner in diabetes.
About the LocationWishaw is a medium-sized town situated in the centre of Lanarkshire, with excellent transport links and access to excellent shops, first-class theatres, visitor attractions, and sporting facilities. Edinburgh is also within easy travelling distance, with both cities having international airports and a host of leisure activities.
Requirements- Full registration and a License to Practice with the GMC.
- Eligibility for inclusion in the GMC's Specialist Register in diabetes and endocrinology and General Medicine, or within 6 months of award of CCT at the time of interview.
