About the Position

This role presents an opportunity to enhance your skills and expertise while contributing to significant projects in the energy sector.

As a Senior Buyer, you will play a crucial role in the Overhead Line (OHL) division of our Power Transmission & Distribution Business Unit, focusing on the SSE Skye OHL Project.

The initiative involves constructing a new Overhead Line and HV Underground Cable system spanning 160 kilometres.

You will be tasked with leading and executing complex projects that are vital to our operations and the environment.

Our team is engaged in a diverse project portfolio that is transforming the energy landscape in Scotland, with an emphasis on ensuring the UK's energy security and achieving net zero goals. This position may require occasional travel to various project sites.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Buyer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and shaping the strategic procurement approach for assigned projects.
  • Mentoring and developing team members, including Buyers and Junior Buyers.
  • Updating and managing procurement strategies for Overhead Line projects.
  • Creating and overseeing procurement schedules for daily operations.
  • Leading subcontract tenders and evaluating supplier responses.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of essential materials to project sites.
  • Preparing requests for proposals and quotations.
  • Identifying and managing supply chain risks.
  • Conducting supplier evaluations for procurement initiatives.
  • Facilitating negotiations to shortlist suppliers.
  • Supporting final negotiations with selected vendors.
  • Preparing purchase orders in line with procurement governance.
  • Monitoring the supply market for potential new suppliers and products.
  • Delivering exceptional service by understanding customer needs and maintaining process efficiency.
  • Establishing performance-driven supplier relationships focused on value, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborating with internal teams, including Category, Finance, Operations, and Commercial, to ensure effective delivery of goods and services.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience in procurement processes within utilities or construction sectors.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of NEC subcontract and commercial processes, including legal and regulatory aspects.
  • A proven track record in negotiation and adherence to processes.
  • Excellent analytical abilities and commercial acumen.
  • A pragmatic approach to process compliance.
  • MCIPS qualification or a willingness to pursue it.
