Overview

As a Conservation Ranger, you will be an advocate for environmental stewardship and the preservation of our natural landscapes. Your role is vital in maintaining the integrity of the countryside and coastal areas, ensuring they remain vibrant for both wildlife and the community.

Flexibility is essential, as you may be required to work during weekends, public holidays, and evenings, and be available for on-call duties.

Salary: £23868

Contract: Fixed for 2 years

Work Environment

The position of Ranger at Windermere and Troutbeck is diverse, with each day presenting new challenges. You will join a small, dedicated team of Rangers committed to the care of exceptional landscapes. The Windermere and Troutbeck area encompasses 11 farms, including designated sites of special scientific interest (SSSI), special areas of conservation (SAC), and ancient woodlands, covering a total of 16,000 hectares.

Our locations range from the historic Troutbeck valley, known for its neolithic sites and ancient woodlands, to the lush grasslands of Windermere, extending to the scenic Fell Foot at the southern end of the lake. This region, nestled within the Lake District National Park, is cherished by visitors for its rich history and cultural significance, offering numerous recreational opportunities. You will also have the chance to expand your skills by collaborating with colleagues from the broader Central and East Lakes ranger team and other properties across the Lakes.



Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties will include:

  • Safeguarding and nurturing habitats, wildlife, structures, and equipment.
  • Sharing your knowledge and passion to inspire others to appreciate this remarkable area.
  • Engaging with visitors, taking the time to converse and address their inquiries.
  • Ensuring that conservation efforts and outdoor experiences on the land are of the highest quality.
  • Building relationships within the local community, representing the Trust, and promoting the work of your team.

Candidate Profile

  • Experienced in practical conservation work, focused on habitat and landscape enhancement.
  • Comfortable communicating with diverse audiences about the significance of your work.
  • Diligent, eager to learn, and committed to personal growth.
  • Skilled in adhering to safety protocols, including risk assessments and guidelines.
  • Experienced in land management, access, and conservation practices, with a strong affinity for outdoor work.
  • Proficient in operating machinery and equipment, holding relevant certifications.
  • Possessing a full UK driving license.
