Work Environment
The role of the Windermere and Troutbeck Conservation Ranger is diverse, ensuring that each day presents new challenges. You will join a small, dedicated team of Rangers committed to the stewardship of remarkable locations. The Windermere and Troutbeck area encompasses 11 farms, various in-hand lands, woodlands, and regions designated as SSSI, SAC, and Ancient Woodland, covering a total of 16,000 hectares.
Our sites range from the historic Troutbeck valley, known for its neolithic sites and ancient woodlands, to the vibrant landscapes of Windermere, featuring our in-hand farm and species-rich grasslands.
Situated within the Lake District National Park and adjacent to Lake Windermere, this area holds significant historical and cultural value, attracting numerous visitors for various recreational activities. You will also have the chance to expand your experience by collaborating with colleagues from the broader Central and East Lakes ranger team and other properties throughout the Lakes region.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary duties will include safeguarding and nurturing habitats, wildlife, structures, and equipment. You will share your knowledge and passion to inspire others to appreciate this area as much as you do. Whenever you encounter visitors, you will take the time to engage with them, answering their questions thoughtfully rather than hurrying to the next task.
You will ensure that the conservation initiatives and outdoor experiences on the land you oversee meet the highest standards. Building relationships within the local community is essential, as you will represent the Trust and inform the public about the impactful work you and your team are undertaking.
