Position Overview

At Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, we prioritize the growth and development of our team members as well as the enhancement of our services. While some experience and understanding of Aseptic Services is necessary, comprehensive training will be provided both internally and through recognized external programs for the selected individual. You will receive guidance from a diverse group of seasoned technical and clinical pharmacy professionals, enabling you to expand your knowledge and skills, with the potential for advancement to a Band 8a role.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to further your postgraduate education in Technical Services by completing the Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance course.

A generous relocation package of up to £8,000 may be available, contingent upon the successful candidate meeting specific criteria.

Main Responsibilities

  • Oversee Daily Operations: Manage the daily execution of our aseptic dispensing service, ensuring the efficient and safe utilization of resources, establishing capacity, and timely preparation of clinically appropriate medications.
  • Enhance Aseptic Services: Play a pivotal role in organizing and managing aseptic services to ensure that products are suitable for their intended use, resources are effectively utilized, and products are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Collaborate with the Aseptic Services Accountable Pharmacist to provide professional expertise and ensure our services adhere to Section 10 Exemption and National Standards (QAAPs), maintaining a secure aseptic environment.
  • Train and Mentor Staff: Develop and implement training programs in aseptic preparation, ensuring that all team members are fully equipped to perform their duties safely, consistently, and efficiently.
  • Promote Innovation and Improvement: Lead projects and development initiatives within the aseptic dispensing service, fostering continuous improvement and adherence to high standards.
  • Propose and Implement Enhancements: Take the initiative in suggesting and executing policy or service modifications, collaborating with other disciplines to improve service quality and drive ongoing development.
  • Advance and Lead: Upon achieving key objectives and progressing to Band 8a, assume the responsibility of line-managing an assigned Band 6 Pharmacist, guiding them towards excellence.

This role includes participation in weekend duties within the Dispensary, currently operating on a 1 in 8 week rota, which also includes working one bank holiday per year.

The pharmacy service encompasses over 20 inpatient wards (500 beds), covering a full spectrum of medical wards (cardiology, endocrinology, respiratory, elderly care, acute medicine) and surgical wards (orthopaedics, general surgery, and our award-winning Burns and Plastics unit), as well as the regional Duke of Cornwall spinal unit. We also have a dedicated Cancer Care Ward and a busy Day Case unit, along with an onsite Hospice. Our fully automated and newly refurbished dispensary features state-of-the-art dispensing robots, supported by our experienced pharmacy team of assistants and technicians.

Professional Registration Requirements

Essential

  • Vocational Pharmacy Master's Degree (4 years) + 1 year pre-registration training
  • Postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy at diploma level or equivalent
  • MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance (PTQA) for Band 8a or equivalent academic achievements or experience
  • Registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Demonstrates ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) relevant to the role.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of SACTs/CIVAs/PN services and related pharmacological therapies
  • PTQA
  • Proven track record of identifying opportunities to enhance or improve a service area.
