We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join our dynamic multiprofessional Macmillan Specialist Palliative Care team. The successful candidate will provide specialist palliative care to patients in the acute hospital, supporting colleagues in their provision of care and contributing to research development.

Main Responsibilities

The postholder will be responsible for:

  • Providing direct clinical care to patients across Queens and King Georges Hospitals.
  • Completing consultant ward rounds and providing face-to-face and telephone advice to the CNS team, doctors, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participating in MDT Meetings and providing clinical supervision to registrars, specialty doctors, and non-medical prescribers.
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary teaching and local education programmes, as well as participating in audit and quality improvement work.
  • Covering the on-call rota every 1 in 5 weeks, Category B.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Be on the specialist register for Palliative Medicine or be within six months of entry at the time of interview.
  • Masters degree or other higher degree in a relevant subject.

Experience

  • Demonstrable knowledge of all aspects of specialist palliative care.
  • Wide experience of specialist palliative care in different settings.
  • Poster(s) or presentation(s) at a regional, national, or international forum.
  • Research publications.
  • Evidence of clear area of interest relevant to BHRUT and/or hospice strategy.
