About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join our dynamic multiprofessional Macmillan Specialist Palliative Care team (MSPCT) at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The successful candidate will provide specialist palliative care to patients in the acute hospital across both sites, Queens and King George's Hospital, directly by providing clinical care for patients, and indirectly by supporting colleagues in their provision of care to patients with specialist palliative care needs.

The postholder will also participate in multidisciplinary teaching and local education programmes, contribute to audit and quality improvement work, and attend and participate in local palliative care network meetings and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct clinical care to patients across Queens and King Georges Hospitals
  • Complete consultant ward rounds
  • Provide face-to-face and telephone advice to the CNS team, doctors, and other healthcare professionals
  • Participate in MDT Meetings
  • Provide clinical supervision to registrars, specialty doctors, and non-medical prescribers on the team
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary teaching and local education programmes
  • Participate in audit and quality improvement work
  • Attend and participate in local palliative care network meetings and strategic planning
  • Cover the on-call rota every 1 in 5 weeks, Category B
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate who has:

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council
  • Be on the specialist register for Palliative Medicine or be within six months of entry at the time of interview
  • Masters degree or other higher degree in a relevant subject
  • Demonstrable knowledge of all aspects of specialist palliative care
  • Wide experience of specialist palliative care in different settings
  • Poster(s) or presentation(s) at a regional, national, or international forum
  • Research publications
  • Evidence of clear area of interest relevant to BHRUT and/or hospice strategy
