The successful candidate will play a crucial role in assessing individuals who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of losing their homes. This involves identifying the underlying issues contributing to their situation and providing essential support and guidance.

The Housing Support Advisor will be tasked with delivering advice, assistance, and support to community members seeking housing solutions, with a strong focus on mitigating homelessness within the area.

Key Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience in a comparable position, particularly within housing support or social housing, with a focus on homelessness prevention.
  • In-depth understanding of housing laws, policies, and procedures, including the relevant legislation on homelessness.
  • Familiarity with choice-based lettings systems.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including conducting interviews and providing tailored housing advice.
  • Exceptional communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills, capable of prioritizing tasks and managing workloads effectively.
  • A valid UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
Role Responsibilities

Provide Housing Guidance:
  • Deliver precise and current advice on housing options and strategies for preventing homelessness, ensuring individuals are aware of their rights and obligations.
  • Evaluate and process applications for housing assistance, particularly for those facing homelessness, with a clear emphasis on prevention and relief.
  • Take appropriate measures to secure suitable emergency and temporary housing for individuals in need, adhering to statutory requirements.
  • Maintain regular communication with individuals in temporary accommodation, ensuring they receive the necessary support.
  • Lead initiatives in specialized areas of housing advice, such as domestic violence, youth services, private rental sector issues, or welfare reform.
  • Provide a compassionate, supportive, and proactive service.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders, including local authorities, landlords, and other housing organizations.
Record Maintenance:
  • Ensure all interactions, assessments, and decisions are accurately documented in accordance with relevant policies and procedures, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to data protection regulations.
