About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Electronics and Systems Design Engineer to join our team at Gooch & Housego. As a key member of our R&D department, you will be responsible for the design and development of electronic systems and hardware for our life-saving medical technology, diagnostic devices, and laboratory instruments.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and Development: Design and develop electronic systems and hardware from concept through to production, taking into account requirements, timescales, cost, and regulatory constraints.
  2. Prototype Build and Testing: Build, test, and specify prototypes, including cabling, wiring, and design detailing.
  3. Test Jig Design and Assembly: Design, build, and assemble test jigs for electronic systems and hardware.
  4. PCB Testing and Specification: Test and specify printed circuit boards (PCBs) for electronic systems and hardware.
  5. Cost Modeling and Compliance: Generate cost models, perform Rohs analysis, and compile compliance documentation for electronic systems and hardware.
  6. Electrical Safety Testing: Conduct electrical safety testing for electronic systems and hardware.
Requirements
  1. Client-Facing Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.
  2. Embedded Programming Experience: Experience with embedded programming languages such as 'C', VHDL, and FPGA.
  3. Programming Languages: Proficiency in C++,.net, C#, Java, Python, or algorithm development.
  4. Work Experience: Ideal candidates will have existing work placement experience within a design house or R&D department.
  5. CAD Skills: Familiarity with CAD software for schematic capture and PCB layout, preferably Altium.
  6. EMC Compliance: Knowledge of EMC compliance design techniques and standards.
  7. Report Writing: Ability to write clear, concise reports with good attention to detail.
  8. Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with senior engineers and contribute to the evolution of the R&D department.
  9. Microsoft Office: Competency with Microsoft Office products.
