What does the position entail?

As part of the Gatwick Control Centre (GCC), the Airport Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all facets of daily airport activities. This role requires the proactive identification of potential disruptions to airport operations and the effective management of ongoing incidents by coordinating appropriate responses. Collaboration within the team and clear communication with operational departments and external partners are essential to minimizing disruptions and maintaining operational stability. The position serves as a central point for all departments to assist in investigations and provide data to foster positive improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuously monitor all airport systems, maintaining alertness over alarms and coordinating necessary actions from stakeholders and operational teams. Ensure ongoing communication to facilitate effective responses to current issues and uphold operational efficiency.
  • Meticulously document and log all airport events and incidents, supporting a thorough post-incident review process.
  • Manage and coordinate responses to airport emergency calls, assessing the required level of action and collaborating with other parties to ensure effective emergency responses with precise and timely information.
  • Handle communications from Air Traffic Control regarding aircraft incidents and potential emergencies, coordinating with external agencies for prompt action.
  • Oversee critical security zones and respond to potential breaches using all available equipment and surveillance systems to maintain airport security. This includes analyzing airport systems and responding to alarms.
  • Supervise the inter-terminal shuttle system, intervening as necessary with available equipment. Collaborate with engineers and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and enhance passenger experience.
  • Manage multiple incidents simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and working with your team to deliver all necessary responses effectively.

What qualifications are we seeking?

  • Experience in a Control Centre environment is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience in managing incidents or crisis situations and collaborating as part of a team to achieve optimal outcomes under pressure.
  • Ability to accurately document information in a timely manner.
  • Outstanding communication skills – capable of conveying detailed information both verbally and in writing to all stakeholders in a professional, precise, and timely manner.
