About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our team at Pertemps Plymouth Commercial. As a key member of our construction team, you will be responsible for managing the financial and contractual aspects of our projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Feasibility Studies and Cost Planning: Conduct thorough feasibility studies and cost planning to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Procurement Advice and Assistance: Provide expert advice and assistance on procurement matters to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients.
  • Contract Administration: Manage and administer contracts to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Risk and Value Management: Identify and mitigate risks, and manage value to ensure maximum return on investment for our clients.
  • Cost Control and Reporting: Monitor and control costs, and provide regular reporting to stakeholders.
  • Subcontract Management: Manage subcontractors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and high-quality work.
  • Commercial Awareness and Business Development: Stay up-to-date with market trends and developments, and identify opportunities for business growth and development.
  • Regulatory Understanding: Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and stay up-to-date with changes to industry standards.
  • Quality Assurance and Control: Ensure high-quality work and compliance with company quality standards.
  • Sustainability: Ensure that our projects are delivered in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders to ensure their needs are met and expectations are exceeded.
Requirements
  • Organised Planning Manner: Possess a structured and organised approach to planning and project management.
  • Good Time Discipline: Demonstrate good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent Knowledge of JCT and NEC Contracts: Have a thorough understanding of JCT and NEC contracts and their application in the construction industry.
  • Good Clear Communicator: Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrate attention to detail and ability to review contracts and identify costs.
  • Keep Strict Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Excellent Telephone Manner: Possess excellent telephone manner and communication skills.
  • Good Knowledge and Proficiency in Computing Systems: Have a good understanding of Microsoft 365 and Apple Software, and be proficient in their use.
  • Professionally Qualified: Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field, and possess relevant professional qualifications.
  • In-Depth Knowledge of the Business's Main Disciplines: Have a thorough understanding of the business's main disciplines, including industrial roofing, Solar PV installation, and Scaffolding.
  • Construction Broad Knowledge and Experience: Possess a broad knowledge and experience of the construction industry, including commercial contract awareness and basic technical knowledge.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred) QS Qualification: Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field, and possess relevant professional qualifications.
  • IOSH Qualification - Health & Safety Awareness: Hold an IOSH qualification in Health and Safety Awareness.
  • IT Literate, Intermediate Level in the Use of Excel: Possess a good understanding of Microsoft Excel and be proficient in its use, including pivot tables and data manipulation.
Essential Experience
  • Quantity Surveying: Possess experience in quantity surveying, including commercial contract awareness and basic technical knowledge.
  • Commercial Contract Awareness: Have a thorough understanding of commercial contracts and their application in the construction industry.
  • Basic Technical Knowledge: Possess a broad knowledge and experience of the construction industry, including technical knowledge.
  • Data Management and Analysis: Possess experience in data management and analysis, including volume-based processing and analysis.
  • Working with the Supply Chains: Have experience working with supply chains and managing subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Volume-Based Processing and Analysis: Possess experience in volume-based processing and analysis, including data manipulation and reporting.
  • Working to Define Processes and Procedures: Have experience working to define processes and procedures, including quality assurance and control.
  • Managing Key Stakeholder Relationships: Possess experience in managing key stakeholder relationships, including clients and suppliers.
