About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our team at Pertemps Plymouth Commercial. As a key member of our construction team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on all aspects of quantity surveying, including feasibility studies, cost planning, and contract administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Feasibility Studies and Cost Planning: Conduct thorough feasibility studies and cost planning exercises to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Procurement Advice and Assistance: Provide expert advice and guidance on procurement matters, including tendering and contract negotiation.
  • Contract Administration: Administer contracts and ensure that all contractual obligations are met.
  • Risk and Value Management: Identify and mitigate risks, and manage value throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Cost Control and Reporting: Monitor and control costs, and provide regular reporting to stakeholders.
  • Subcontract Management: Manage subcontractors and ensure that they are performing to the required standards.
  • Commercial Awareness and Business Development: Develop and maintain commercial awareness, and identify opportunities for business growth and development.
  • Regulatory Understanding: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws.
  • Quality Assurance and Control: Ensure that all work is of the highest quality, and that quality control procedures are in place.
  • Sustainability: Ensure that all projects are delivered in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders to ensure that their needs and expectations are met.
Requirements

  • Excellent Knowledge of JCT and NEC Contracts: Possess a thorough understanding of JCT and NEC contracts, and be able to apply this knowledge in a practical context.
  • Good Clear Communicator: Be an effective communicator, with the ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts to stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Possess a high level of attention to detail, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Keep Strict Confidentiality: Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality, with the ability to handle sensitive information.
  • Excellent Telephone Manner: Possess excellent telephone skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Good Knowledge and Proficiency in Computing Systems: Possess a good understanding of computing systems, including Microsoft 365 and Apple Software.
  • Professionally Qualified: Possess a relevant professional qualification, such as a Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying.
  • In-Depth Knowledge of Business Disciplines: Possess a thorough understanding of the business's main disciplines, including industrial roofing, solar PV installation, and scaffolding.
  • Construction Broad Knowledge and Experience: Possess a broad knowledge and experience of the construction industry, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical context.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred) QS Qualification: Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, or a relevant professional qualification.
  • IOSH Qualification - Health & Safety Awareness: Possess an IOSH qualification in Health and Safety Awareness.
  • IT Literate, Intermediate Level in Excel: Possess a good understanding of Excel, including pivot tables and data manipulation.
Essential Experience
  • Quantity Surveying: Possess a minimum of 5 years' experience in quantity surveying, with a proven track record of delivering results.
  • Commercial Contract Awareness: Possess a thorough understanding of commercial contracts, including JCT and NEC contracts.
  • Basic Technical Knowledge: Possess a good understanding of technical knowledge, including construction methods and materials.
  • Data Management and Analysis: Possess a good understanding of data management and analysis, including the use of Excel and other software tools.
  • Working with Supply Chains: Possess a good understanding of supply chain management, including the ability to negotiate and manage contracts.
  • Volume-Based Processing and Analysis: Possess a good understanding of volume-based processing and analysis, including the use of software tools.
  • Working to Define Processes and Procedures: Possess a good understanding of process and procedure development, including the ability to implement and manage change.
  • Managing Key Stakeholder Relationships: Possess a good understanding of stakeholder management, including the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.
