Cost Management Specialist – Environmental Sector

Location: Rickmansworth

Role Overview:

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Cost Management Specialist to join the team at Galliford Try.

Ideally, candidates will be located in or near the Rickmansworth area and will have the chance to travel across various sites/projects within the region.

  • Implement necessary governance and generate Subcontract documentation, including the negotiation of terms, conditions, pricing, and schedules.
  • Oversee subcontract work packages, including interim evaluations of amounts due and subsequent change management.
  • Create and issue all commercial notifications to both Clients and Subcontractors as dictated by the contract.
  • Manage changes promptly in accordance with the contract, including the preparation and submission of Compensation Event Quotations.
  • Prepare, submit, and agree on monthly applications to the Client, in line with the contract.
  • Collaborate with operational and engineering teams to ensure site records meet required standards.
  • Work alongside construction teams to identify and manage budget variances, reporting this information as necessary.
  • Generate detailed monthly reports and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVR) as required by the business unit or project.
  • Negotiate final accounts to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Assist in reaching business objectives, including cash flow, profit, return on capital, and sales.
  • Maintain and nurture customer/stakeholder relationships for repeat business opportunities and tenders.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive 'Cost Plan', tracking and forecasting expenditures, including detailed schedules of Subcontractor liabilities and utilizing Oracle-based cost analyses.
  • Identify and manage risks and opportunities to enhance margin positions.
  • Analyze and critically assess expenditure reports generated by internal cost systems.
  • Attend progress and risk mitigation meetings with clients and subcontractors.
  • Foster a positive working relationship with senior leadership, peers, and teams to discuss, develop, and implement initiatives and change management protocols.
  • Uphold the principles of 'Doing the right thing' to maximize value and profit.
  • Manage commercial performance against business targets and Framework KPIs.

Candidate Profile:

  • Strong understanding of standard forms of contract.
  • Proficient IT skills, including Excel, Word, and Contractual and Cost Management Systems (CEMAR, Asite, Orbit).
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Solid knowledge of construction processes.
  • Exceptional time and outcome management abilities.
  • Proven track record in negotiation and final account settlements.
  • Professional qualifications such as MCIOB or MRICS, ideally Incorporated member, working towards full membership (Desirable).
  • Experience in Civil Engineering Environment (Highways/Rail/Water/Aviation).
  • Exposure to large single or multiple smaller schemes.
  • CSCS certification as appropriate.
