Quantity Surveyor

We are seeking a highly skilled Quantity Surveyor - Environment Specialist to join our team at Galliford Try. As a key member of our commercial team, you will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of our construction projects, ensuring that we deliver high-quality services to our clients while maintaining a strong focus on cost control and profitability.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the preparation and negotiation of subcontract documentation, including terms and conditions, prices, and programs.
- Oversee the management of subcontract works packages, including interim assessments of amounts due and subsequent change management.
- Produce and issue commercial notices to clients and subcontractors as required by the contract.
- Manage changes in a timely manner in accordance with the contract, including the production and submission of compensation event quotations.
- Produce and submit monthly applications to clients in accordance with the contract.
- Liaise with operational and engineering staff to ensure site records are maintained to the required standard.
- Work with construction teams to identify and manage variances to budgets and report this information as required.
- Produce detailed monthly reports and cost value reconciliations as required by the business unit or project.
- Negotiate final accounts to achieve the best possible outcome.
- Assist in achieving business targets, including cash, profit, return on capital, and sales.
- Maintain and manage customer and stakeholder relationships for repeat business opportunities and tenders.
- Produce and maintain a detailed cost plan, tracking and forecasting expenditure, including detailed schedules of subcontractor liabilities and use of Oracle-based cost analyses.
- Manage risks and opportunities to achieve an enhanced margin position.
- Interpret and critically evaluate expenditure reports produced by internal cost systems.
- Attend progress and risk reduction meetings with clients and subcontractors.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with the senior leadership team, peers, and teams to debate, develop, and implement initiatives and change management protocols.
- Apply the principles of 'doing the right thing' to maximize value and profit.
- Manage commercial performance against business targets and framework KPIs.
- Good appreciation of standard forms of contract.
- Strong IT skills, including Excel, Word, and contractual and cost management systems (CEMAR, Asite, Orbit).
- Strong stakeholder management and communication capabilities.
- Solid knowledge of construction processes.
- First-class time and outcome management skills.
- Track record of negotiation and final account settlement.
- Professional qualification, such as MCIOB or MRICS, ideally incorporated member, working towards full membership (desirable).
- Experience in civil engineering environment (highways/rail/water/aviation).
- Exposure on large single or multiple smaller schemes.
- CSCS (as appropriate).
