Job Summary

To provide high-quality administrative support to the Cancer Team of the Department of Clinical Research, ensuring the smooth operation of various research projects. Assist with the coordination of clinical trial-related samples, including transportation, storage, and shipment. Support the planning and preparation for patient study visits, as well as wider administrative duties such as data entry onto electronic research forms and uploading patient recruitment data onto the local portfolio management system (Edge).

Main Responsibilities

Under the guidance of research delivery staff, provide study-specific support as required. This will involve activities such as:

  • Preparing and sending trial information to patients
  • Filing and photocopying documents
  • Booking patient appointments and preparing blood sampling packs
  • Sending pre and post-appointment letters to patients and arranging couriers for samples
  • Ensuring the safe storage and packaging of blood or urine samples
  • Recording sample shipments to external organizations

Screen and respond to patient and staff correspondence, providing accurate and timely information in a friendly and professional manner.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A good standard of education, including English, Mathematics, and a science GCSE (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of good literacy and English language skills
  • NVQ level 2 (or equivalent experience) in business and administration
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel

Desirable qualifications include awareness of research governance, medical terminology, and knowledge/experience of the NHS and clinical research or trials.
