Research Scientist in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Combustion

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Assistant/Associate to join our team in the School of Engineering at Newcastle University. The successful candidate will have a strong background in computational fluid dynamics and computational combustion, and will be responsible for designing and delivering research outcomes in these areas.
About the RoleThis is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a research project funded by the Engineering Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) on swirl stabilised hydrogen premixed flames. The project aims to deliver an advanced Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) database for hydrogen-air premixed swirl flames under representative combustor operating conditions, and to identify the combustor operating conditions for which hydrodynamic/thermoacoustic instabilities exist.
Key Responsibilities- Design and deliver research outcomes in computational fluid dynamics and computational combustion
- Contribute to the development of a comprehensive understanding of the behaviour of the Processing Vortex Core (PVC) under non-reacting and reacting flow conditions
- Identify the combustor operating conditions for which hydrodynamic/thermoacoustic instabilities exist
- Collaborate with industry experts and PhD students to deliver research outcomes
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong background in computational fluid dynamics and computational combustion, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to network and influence. You will also need to be able to design and deliver research outcomes at local and international conferences.
