Senior Mortgage Underwriter

**Job Summary**
This is a senior role within the Coventry Building Society, responsible for making informed lending decisions on secured residential and buy-to-let mortgage applications. The successful candidate will have expertise in underwriting complex cases and will be accountable for protecting the quality of the Society's lending book.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide senior underwriting expertise on complex and high-value cases, making final decisions while ensuring the quality of the lending book.
- Be a role model for expert underwriting and provide coaching, training, and development to enhance colleague underwriting and customer service capabilities.
- Persuade and influence up to executive level, providing robust justification of lending decisions made.
- Build confidence in the quality of underwriting conducted through the department.
- Be a point of escalation for queries or challenges from internal and external customers on lending decisions.
**Requirements**
- Experience in residential and BTL mortgage underwriting, with a specialization in self-employed and special purpose vehicle underwriting being advantageous.
- Current knowledge of mortgage markets, products, regulatory requirements, and the changing climate of demands surrounding credit risk and financial crime.
- Ability to communicate effectively up to senior manager/executive level.
- Ability to demonstrate challenging appropriately when policies, processes, and procedures are not in line with putting the customer first or reducing Society risk.
