About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of UK Policy and Advocacy to lead our policy work and government and parliamentary relations in the UK. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and delivering strategies to ensure that ONE achieves impact through its policy analysis and engagement on key policy issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to engage with parliamentary and government targets, and build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Lead on policy and advocacy work for UK campaigns, including managing relationships with external policy actors, preparing documents on development issues, lobbying targets, and crafting articles for blog posts and briefing documents.
  • Work closely with the UK Campaigns Director and other staff to identify trends and issues within the development sector and wider UK public and political context, and develop strategies, projects, and interventions around these.
  • Ensure the provision of policy and political analysis on UK development policy issues, and UK perspectives to ONE's global policy discussions, ensuring global and UK positions are compatible.
  • Represent ONE at high-level meetings, lead the setting of strategies for these meetings, and ensure that other ONE representatives are properly briefed.
  • Lead the conceptualization and organization of events to advance ONE's UK policy and advocacy objectives.
  • Line manage the Policy and Advocacy Manager and other roles as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in development, politics, economics, international relations, or a related field, or relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant work experience, including 5+ years in a management or lead capacity within international development, civil society, media, or government.
  • Experience of managing people and budgets, and directing team performance for maximum success.
  • Significant experience of working on development policy in an NGO, think tank, legislature, or government, including at least three years in a management or leadership capacity.
  • Strong political judgement and understanding of the UK political environment and relevant parliamentary and policy processes.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, with shifting priorities, and make a strong positive contribution to a diverse global team.
What We Offer

ONE offers a competitive salary of GBP 70,000 - GBP 75,000 per year, as well as an exceptional benefits package and the opportunity to contribute to worldwide causes impacting those most in need.
