Role Overview:
This position serves as the technical authority for all Instrumentation and Electrical installations across capital projects at designated sites. The individual will ensure that all designs and implementations adhere to established engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all E&I aspects of capital expenditure (CAPEX) designs and installations.
- Oversee contract E&I discipline engineers, ensuring adherence to business standards.
- Coordinate with project EPC contractors to guarantee compliance with site standards and provide timely responses to technical queries.
- Ensure thorough scoping of all CAPEX projects regarding proposed E&I activities.
- Collaborate with Maintenance and Compliance teams to align E&I proposals with site requirements.
- Manage budget oversight and reporting for all projects under supervision.
- Ensure compliance with Functional Safety on CAPEX projects, including verification of design, installation, and system certification as per IEC 61508.
- Assess new E&I equipment for Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality impacts, identifying necessary preventive maintenance tasks.
- Identify and order critical spares for new installations.
- Provide technical input to maintain and update current site standards in line with best practices.
- Plan resources effectively for all E&I activities on CAPEX projects.
- Update IS calculations and loop drawings for all CAPEX projects.
- Offer hands-on support during project handover phases.
- Facilitate training for operational teams on new installations.
- Ensure compliance with qualification and quality obligations for all project-related I & E activities.
- Deliver technical guidance across departments, including root cause analysis and troubleshooting of E&I issues.
- Provide ad-hoc technical support to maintenance and compliance teams for ongoing operational challenges.
- Undertake additional duties as reasonably assigned within the employee's skill set.
Scope of Role:
- Covers Capital Projects across multiple sites.
- Involves projects with a planning horizon of 1-3 years and execution support for projects within 0-12 months.
- Requires strong planning, organizational, and computer skills.
- Demands excellent multitasking and time management abilities.
- Involves collaboration with external contractors, internal teams, and operational departments.
- Includes budget responsibilities for projects potentially exceeding £1 million, along with multiple smaller projects ranging from £25k to £500k.
Special Considerations:
- May require extended hours or weekend work to meet project deadlines during critical phases.
- Regular travel between sites may be necessary to monitor project progress.
Candidate Profile:
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified in Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, preferably chartered.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering complex E&I engineering projects.
- Familiarity with permit to work systems, including working at height and confined spaces.
- Experience in project budget management and reporting.
- Proven leadership of E&I engineering teams in project settings.
- Experience with installations in hazardous areas (ATEX).
- Functional safety experience is desirable.
- NEBOSH or equivalent safety qualification is a plus.
- Experience in site commissioning and fault finding is essential.
Personal Skills and Competencies:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Proficient in computer applications (Word, OneNote, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Ability to effectively interact with both external and internal contractors.
