Role Overview:
As a Lead Mass Properties Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in managing mass property data for advanced engineering projects. Your expertise will contribute to ensuring weight and centroid control across multi-billion-pound submarine initiatives.
Key Responsibilities: Gather and analyze mass property data for systems and equipment to maintain weight and centroid accuracy on high-value submarine projects. Assist the Mass Properties Lead in compiling weight and centroid reports, presenting findings to senior engineering leaders. Collaborate with design engineers to accurately assess mass, centroid, and design readiness of various mechanical and electronic systems. Develop and maintain a detailed database of mass properties for components. Lead initiatives aimed at weight reduction and maintain a register of weight-related risks and opportunities across different engineering disciplines. Analyze CAD models to estimate mass properties, including associated uncertainties. Employ statistical methods to provide comprehensive insights into weight risks and opportunities for stakeholders and clients.
Required Qualifications:
Essential Degree in a STEM field or equivalent professional experience. Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status, or a clear path towards achieving professional accreditation. Proven ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team. Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Desirable Experience with large-scale, complex electrical or mechanical systems. Background in data analysis, including interpretation, visualization, and presentation. Familiarity with CAD software and tools.

About the Weight Engineering Team:
The Weight Engineering Team consists of a diverse group of engineers and data scientists dedicated to estimating, compiling, and presenting mass properties data for several high-value submarine programs. This specialized team is crucial in the overall design process and ensuring the safety of the entire vessel.
