Learning Support Assistant

As a Learning Support Assistant at Brook Street Social Care, you will play a vital role in providing mentor support to students with learning difficulties and disabilities, emotional and behavioural needs who are on mainstream or discrete courses.
Key Responsibilities- Implement detailed assessments and monitoring and review of support strategies.
- Carry out instructions from the Learning Support Co-ordinator, and liaise on a day-to-day basis with teaching staff responsible for the courses involved.
- Participate in the continuous professional development and training that will enhance personal growth and enhance the work of the division.
- Accountabilities:
- Escort and assist students, including those with mobility difficulties, to get into and around and to meet a range of personal care needs.
- Accompany students on curriculum-related visits, such as work experience and residential.
- Act as an advocate and encourage self-advocacy.
- Actively encourage students to be independent.
- Relay student concerns and issues to teaching staff and departmental managers.
- Support and scribe for students, support transition into and progression at the programme's end.
- Assist with detailed individual assessment of student needs in line with the College or departmental procedures.
- Devise and implement support strategies with senior departmental staff and other College professionals around individual students or groups to overcome their barriers to learning.
- Help with the follow-up of student attendance problems and to assist teaching staff and departmental managers in the identification of reasons for poor attendance and student retention.
- Liaise with Learning Mentor Coordinator or authorised deputy on a regular basis, attend learning mentor team meeting, key worker meeting on a regular basis.
- Liaise with other professionals in the care of the individual students.
- Understand and adhere to college Health and Safety policies and guidelines ensuring compliance with statutory legislation.
- Undertake other duties as may be reasonably required.
- Potential travel to other locations to attend meetings and meet with the teams when required.
- Take appropriate responsibility for PREVENT and the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children and/or vulnerable adults.
- Essential - Must have a driving licence and own transport.
