The PSV Engineering Manager is a critical leadership role within our Engineering department at Simonds Coach & Travel. This position is responsible for managing and overseeing all engineering activities related to our fleet of buses, ensuring the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and Manage Engineering Teams: Lead and manage a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Develop Engineering Plans: Develop and implement engineering plans, policies, and procedures to ensure the effective operation and maintenance of the PSV fleet.
  • Fleet Management: Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of the PSV fleet, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Director: Collaborate with the Engineering Director to define engineering strategies and long-term plans that align with the company's objectives.
  • Monitor Fleet Performance: Monitor fleet performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Liaise with Regulatory Bodies: Liaise with DVSA and foster a good working relationship with all regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant regulations, safety standards, and environmental requirements.
  • Lead Safety Audits: Lead safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop Documentation: Develop and maintain documentation for all engineering processes and procedures, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Communicate with Stakeholders: Serve as the primary point of contact for all engineering-related matters, both internally and externally.
  • Provide Updates: Provide regular updates to the Engineering Director and senior management on the status of engineering projects, fleet performance, and other key metrics.
  • Foster Relationships: Foster strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, and regulatory bodies to support the company's engineering objectives.
  • Stay Up-to-Date: Stay abreast of the latest technological advancements in the PSV and transportation industry.
  • Evaluate and Implement New Technologies: Evaluate and implement new technologies that improve the performance, safety, and sustainability of the PSV fleet.
  • Promote Innovation: Promote a culture of innovation within the engineering team, encouraging creative solutions to engineering challenges.
  • Oversee External Maintenance: Oversee and manage external maintenance operations, ensuring third-party customers receive high-quality and reliable standards.
  • Meet Customer Needs: Ensure engineering solutions are tailored to meet customer satisfaction.
  • Contribute to Company Reputation: Contribute to maintaining the company's reputation for delivering high-quality and reliable services.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in an engineering role within the transportation or automotive industry, preferable in HGV / PCV.
  • Fleet Management Experience: Experience in fleet management, project management, and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Leadership and Team Management Skills: Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to motivate and develop engineering teams.
  • Project Management Skills: Strong project management skills, with experience managing large-scale engineering projects from start to finish.
  • Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing engineering challenges.
  • Engineering Software and Tools: Proficient in the use of engineering software and tools, with experience in data analysis and performance monitoring.
