Job Title: Quantity Surveyor - Commercial Management

We are seeking a highly skilled Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial Operations team at National Highways. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in supporting our £1bn investment programme to maintain the Strategic Road Network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on cost and contract audits to ensure contractor compliance with contract conditions
  • Day-to-day contract and commercial management, including managing communication and notifications to timescales, managing and valuing compensation events and early warnings, and reviewing and agreeing final accounts using CEMAR contract management portal
  • Assess payment applications using National Highways CEMAR
  • Provide contractual advice to the business and the service delivery team
  • Act as a line manager and mentor to Assistant Quantity Surveyors, Graduates, and Apprentices, providing ongoing support in their professional development

Requirements:

  • Relevant degree and/or chartered professional status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS or above), the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (MCInstCES or above), or an equivalent membership of a relevant professional body
  • Demonstrable experience in option C/E defined cost auditing for people and equipment against NEC schedule of Cost Components
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering quantity surveying/commercial functions, preferably in a civil engineering/infrastructure environment, desirably using NE4C forms of contract
  • Proficient user of Excel and familiarity with contract management and administration software systems (e.g. CEMAR)
  • Experience of successfully delivering multiple projects in a comparable environment working for either the client or contractor
  • Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills
