Cranleigh Scientific is a leading provider of laboratory services dedicated to the environmental and allied sectors. We are seeking a qualified HSE Advisor to enhance our team.

Your primary responsibility will be to assist the Site Manager in establishing and maintaining effective HSE protocols, with a significant emphasis on conducting internal audits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in defining, communicating, and executing HSE objectives and improvement initiatives to foster a robust Safety Culture, minimize accidents, and enhance environmental performance.
  • Facilitate the achievement of established HSE goals and targets.
  • Actively participate in the Management and HSE Teams, coordinating with other HSE professionals and management to uphold the integrated HSE Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE legal standards and industry best practices.
  • Lead HSE Risk Assessments, engaging relevant personnel to effectively communicate identified risks and controls.
  • Identify HSE training needs in collaboration with departmental managers and ensure appropriate training is delivered.
  • Support operational managers in monitoring safety and environmental checks, ensuring timely resolution of identified issues.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Integrated Management System to meet ISO standard requirements.
  • Serve as the designated fire officer and coordinate with emergency services as necessary.
  • Organize regular emergency response drills to ensure preparedness and maintain records for improvement recommendations.
  • Conduct HSE compliance assessments of contractors, facilitating inductions and monitoring their activities on-site.
  • Lead or assist in investigating HSE incidents, reporting findings to management and recommending corrective actions.
  • Ensure timely implementation of corrective actions and compliance with certification requirements.
  • Provide HSE training and support during high-risk job activities.
  • Advise operational teams on their responsibilities regarding environmental compliance.
  • Contribute to monthly reports detailing HSE performance, statistics, compliance status, and audit findings.
  • Occasionally support other sites based on the Advisor's expertise and business needs, which may include areas such as Mental and Occupational Health, Emergency Management, and Chemical Safety.

Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent is required.
  • Lead auditor qualification is preferred.
  • A valid UK driving license is necessary.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in a Health, Safety, and Environmental role, with knowledge of maintaining HSE management systems certified to ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015.

Desirable Expertise:

  • Mental Health training
  • Manual Handling training
  • Fire Safety
  • Level 3 Award in Training and Education
  • Competency in producing COSHH assessments
  • Experience in water hygiene, environmental, or analytical services with a strong understanding of chemical safety.
