Location Insights:

The Basingstoke facility is equipped with diverse capabilities, including specialized manufacturing, laboratories, and a logistics center. The site produces essential products such as culture media, antimicrobial susceptibility tests, and freeze-dried supplements, which play a critical role in disease diagnosis, antibiotic treatment planning, and ensuring food safety.

Approximately 450 employees contribute to the success of this location.

Role Overview:

As a Reliability Engineer / Maintenance Improvement Engineer, you will spearhead the continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering team, ensuring adherence to EHS and Quality standards across site, corporate, and regulatory frameworks.

Your focus will be on enhancing performance to deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, develop, and implement safety protocols and systems to align with site, corporate, and regulatory standards, including PSSR2000, LOLER1998, PUWER1998, and CDM2015.
  • Promote Safe Systems of Work by mentoring staff and implementing a hazard observation system.
  • Support the development and execution of engineering-based risk assessments, ensuring regular reviews are conducted.
  • Coordinate departmental compliance efforts, including investigating non-conformances, deviations, CAPA, and audit findings.
  • Timely identification, quantification, and mitigation of risks.
  • Manage and coordinate site/department shutdowns, collaborating with the site planning team to minimize business impact.
  • Take ownership of actions within the daily tier process where performance falls short of expectations.
  • Utilize problem-solving tools (Root Cause Counter Measure) in collaboration with engineering teams and peers.
  • Develop and maintain a planned maintenance program tailored to site requirements.
  • Oversee the engineering root cause counter-measure program, striving for a culture of zero repeat breakdowns.
  • Identify inefficiencies in maintenance systems and processes, implementing corrective measures to eliminate waste.
  • Foster a Practical Performance Improvement culture (PPI), promoting problem-solving (RCCM) and Kaizen initiatives to address significant business challenges.
  • Collaborate with peers to ensure safe and compliant introduction of process improvements, demonstrating value to customers.
  • Act as a deputy for the Site Engineering Manager as needed.

Candidate Profile:

  • Experience in an engineering role within a regulated manufacturing environment, such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, FMCG, or food production.
  • A mindset geared towards continuous improvement, with practical experience in applying LEAN manufacturing tools and techniques in a production setting.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations and their practical application in the workplace.
  • IOSH qualification.
  • Degree or relevant qualifications in Engineering.
