Aldershot, Hampshire, United Kingdom Ministry of Defence Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking a confident and knowledgeable individual who can provide sound advice and direction in the medical field. This role offers an opportunity to develop new skills while contributing to the growth of our organization. Candidates with experience in a dynamic and ambitious environment are encouraged to apply.

If you are eager to expand your expertise and understanding within a supportive workplace, this position may be the right fit for you. We are looking for a motivated and organized professional to join our dedicated team.

The Ministry of Defence employs a diverse workforce of over 50,000 Civil Servants, including approximately 7,000 personnel in the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) across more than 300 locations. Our roles encompass a wide range of functions, from training and human resources to project management and policy development. Utilizing data to enhance our understanding of workforce dynamics is essential.

Headquarters Southeast (HQSE) serves as a Regional Point of Command (RPoC), integrating Regular Army, Civil Service, Army Reservists, and contractors. HQSE is responsible for overseeing the Army's interests in the South-East region, focusing on key areas such as operations, community engagement, and youth programs. The scope of responsibilities is extensive, ensuring the success of the Army's operational objectives.

This role is pivotal in delivering essential support to our units and their personnel, as well as their families. The position is structured for 37 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will join a dedicated team in a vital advisory role, acting as the primary medical consultant for the Commander and coordinating all medical activities within the region. Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the Commander’s Monthly Case Review (CMCR) for units within the area of responsibility (AOR) and conducting trend analysis to inform health committees.
  • Organizing the biennial Formation Health Committee and preparing the Commander for regional command meetings.
  • Maintaining awareness of health and wellness issues across the region and liaising with external stakeholders to escalate concerns.
  • Ensuring the implementation of medical plans for all units within the AOR.
  • Coordinating all reserve medical referrals and requests for specialized clinical opinions.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, both as a collaborative team member and as an independent contributor. Strong organizational skills and problem-solving abilities are essential, along with the capacity to communicate effectively with a diverse audience.

Experience in welfare roles, whether civilian or military, is advantageous, as is the management of personnel. The ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment with shifting priorities is crucial, and familiarity with Office 365 is a plus.

Assessment Criteria

During the selection process, candidates will be evaluated on the following behaviors:

  • Leadership
  • Effective Communication and Influence
  • Strategic Thinking
  • Collaboration
  • Quality Service Management

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position is £35,290, with the Ministry of Defence contributing £9,528 towards your Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. The Army values work-life balance and promotes flexible working arrangements whenever possible.

Additional benefits include:

  • 25 days of paid annual leave, increasing to 30 days after five years of service.
  • A competitive pension scheme.
  • Opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Flexible working patterns for many roles.
  • Access to the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for support in maintaining a healthy work environment.
  • Enhanced parental and adoption leave.
  • Special leave for volunteering activities.
  • Learning and development opportunities.

We believe in the potential of every individual to make a significant impact and will support your growth and advancement in your career, including pathways to professional qualifications and apprenticeships.

Work Environment

Some roles may offer a combination of office and remote work, subject to business needs. All office-based employees are expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in the office. Further details can be discussed with the hiring manager.

Please note that this position does not offer relocation expenses, and external recruits will undergo a six-month probation period.

The Ministry of Defence is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment, including initiatives to promote a smoke-free workplace.
