Overview of the Role

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Patient Transport Specialists to assist in the safe transportation of patients requiring support to and from medical appointments at various healthcare facilities.

If you possess a background in patient care, along with strong interpersonal and communication skills, we would love to hear from you.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and discretion in their approach. A sense of humour and familiarity with the local area will be beneficial.

Daily Responsibilities

As a Patient Transport Specialist, your primary duty will be to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of non-urgent patients to and from healthcare settings and private residences. This role demands a professional demeanor and a commitment to teamwork.

You will operate in pairs or independently, utilizing various vehicle types, and may be required to cover night shifts.

A valid UK manual driving license with a minimum of one year of driving experience is essential. Please note that only minor motoring offences with a maximum of three penalty points will be considered.

Your journey with us will commence with a comprehensive three-week paid training program (Monday to Friday), which includes clinical training for 'First Person on Scene' and patient transport driver training, with uniforms provided.

Commitment to Training

It is crucial that you are able to commit to the training schedule as outlined.

Reimbursement for travel to and from the training location will be available, with claims applicable for mileage exceeding the distance to your designated base station.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide appropriate care for patients based on their individual needs, recognizing when additional support is necessary.
  2. Document and communicate patient conditions and care provided in accordance with Trust policies.
  3. Operate vehicles safely and in line with patient conditions and Trust training.
  4. Maintain vehicles in a clean and safe condition, adhering to health and safety regulations.
  5. Ensure effective communication with the Ambulance Liaison Office and other healthcare professionals.
  6. Assist patients in their homes, ensuring their basic needs are met before and after transportation.
  7. Safely maneuver and lift patients as required, following manual handling protocols.
  8. Ensure timely transportation of patients to designated treatment areas.
  9. Participate in service improvement initiatives and personal development opportunities.

Qualifications Required

Essential

  • A full car driving license (with a maximum of three penalty points).

Knowledge and Experience

  • Proven experience in customer care and dealing with the public.

  • Previous experience in a caring role or public service.
