We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse in Learning Disabilities to join our Learning Disability Liaison Team as an Epilepsy Nurse Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to work with adults with epilepsy and their families/carers, providing advice, education, and support to ensure they receive the best possible care.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive nursing service, providing information, advice, and support to patients and carers. This will involve working in partnership with a range of clinicians and services, communicating effectively, and educating where appropriate.
Main Responsibilities- Provide expert advice and support to adults with epilepsy and their families/carers regarding their condition, drug therapy, medication administration, and seizure control.
- Support the Trust to achieve a multi-disciplinary approach to epilepsy care, working with specialist clinics, support, advice, counselling, and best practice.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date clinical data on epilepsy, ensuring that services are provided in line with current local and national policy and guidance.
- Assist the Neurology Department to exercise their duty to provide people with a learning disability equality of access to the same healthcare as the general population.
- Work with the Neurology Department to develop an action plan to deliver improvements in service delivery and health outcomes.
- Exercise leadership within the Neurology Department to ensure that services are provided in line with current local and national policy and guidance for people with Learning Disabilities.
- Assist the Neurology Department to manage the interface between mainstream general hospital services, primary care services, and specialist learning disability services.

Person Specification- Experience as a Band 5 in an acute and/or community setting.
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Clinical supervision and mentoring experience.
- Experience of managing staff.
- Mentoring students in line with professional requirements.
- A professional Mental Health Nursing or Learning Disability Nursing qualification.
- Epilepsy qualification or willingness to undertake.
