Job Responsibilities

This role involves delivering mental health care to incarcerated individuals, which encompasses crisis management, assessment, psychological documentation, educational interventions, one-on-one and group therapy, care planning, and transition planning under the guidance of a senior mental health professional. The position includes evaluating, tracking, and overseeing inmates with mental health requirements during intake, general population, and specialized housing. Participation in the formulation, execution, and evaluation of mental health programs, policies, and initiatives at the facility is expected. There may be involvement with specialized units or initiatives. This role also serves as a resource for administration, security, treatment, and community corrections personnel, and includes providing training sessions.

Essential Qualifications

Experience and training in addressing mental health disorders.
Proven capability to create intervention and treatment strategies.
Demonstrated experience in offering individual and group counseling/therapy.
Strong foundational knowledge of mental health conditions, diagnostic terminology, psychological principles, and ethical standards.
Proven ability to deliver training. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Additional Considerations

A graduate degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Social Work, or a related field from an accredited institution, or a combination of relevant training and experience, with advanced studies in mental health that support the responsibilities of a Mental Health Service Provider as per the Code of Virginia.
Experience in providing mental health services in correctional, forensic, outpatient, or similar environments.
Must hold a license as a clinician, QMHP, or be eligible for QMHP status as required by the Code of Virginia.
