Job Summary

This role is responsible for leading the trust's service line planning, strategic planning, and annual planning processes. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of the trust's strategy and support the Royal Free's relationship with North Central London Integrated Care System and NHS England.

Main ResponsibilitiesAnnual Planning

The Head of Planning will be responsible for the production of the trust's annual plan, ensuring that North Central London Integrated Care System and NHS England guidance is followed. This will involve managing the relationship with the Finance and People teams, as well as other Corporate Departments, to develop the specific annual planning requirements.

The successful candidate will also work with the Health Units to develop the individual Health Unit plans, as well as the overarching organisational plan. Additionally, they will provide market intelligence and analysis function at corporate and service line levels, and undertake the annual process of corporate objective setting in the context of the board's strategy and governing objectives.

Strategic Planning

The Head of Planning will support the development of the internal business case process and manage the internal business case process, including the Business Case Advisory Panel. They will also work with the communications department to express the board's plans for internal and external communications.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have a postgraduate degree level qualification and evidence of continuing professional development. They will also have experience of working with external advisers and managing a planning process. Additionally, they will be able to establish effective relationships with senior doctors, academics, accountants, workforce, and information specialists.

The ideal candidate will have a detailed understanding of NHS and key policy issues, as well as developed IT skills. They will also be able to work under pressure to meet executives' demands and work flexibly in a dynamic environment.
