About the Department

The Department of Vision Sciences is a key component of the School of Health & Life Sciences, which is committed to excellence in teaching, applied research, and knowledge transfer. Our department offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including a Master of Optometry with Independent Prescribing (MOptom IP), BSc(Hons) Orthoptics, and BSc Ophthalmic Dispensing Management. This unique combination of programs allows for an integrated teaching approach and inter-professional training among eye care professionals.

Role Responsibilities

As a Lecturer in Vision Sciences, your primary focus will be on delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences supported by scholarly activity. Key responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the delivery and assessment of existing modules.
  • Supervising students and enhancing their educational experience.
  • Engaging in research activities and supporting a diverse portfolio of research students.
  • Integrating e-learning and online environments into the curriculum.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a BSc (Hons) in Optometry/Orthoptics or an equivalent qualification. Registration with the GOC as an Optometrist or HCPC as an Orthoptist, or holding a PhD in Vision Sciences or a related field, is required. Prior experience in supporting student learning in Vision Sciences and relevant industry experience is essential.
