Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Assist in the enhancement of NatureScot's knowledge base and recommendations in suitable formats to guide fisheries management policies and broader strategies. Collaborate with colleagues involved in various aspects of NatureScot's marine fisheries initiatives to achieve corporate plan objectives related to ecological recovery, climate action, and sustainable practices. Expand our knowledge base through the evaluation or synthesis of research studies and aid in the formulation of marine fisheries guidance or advisory materials. Facilitate the commissioning, oversight, and/or involvement in pertinent research endeavors. Contribute to the creation of marine fisheries content for the staff intranet and the NatureScot website. Participate in the general activities of the two marine Activity Teams by attending meetings, engaging in training events, and contributing to the preparation, monitoring, and achievement of business plan goals.

Essential skills and demonstrable knowledge/experience through research or employment:

Strong comprehension and relevant experience in marine fisheries, their ecology, and management, particularly within Scotland/UK. Insight into the interactions between marine fisheries and marine biodiversity. Familiarity with conservation and marine planning legislation pertinent to Scotland's waters, including the Marine (Scotland) Act and the designations and features that constitute the Scottish marine protected area network. Proficient knowledge/experience of GIS. Awareness of the Scottish fishing industry and its challenges, with preferably practical experience in evaluating and analyzing fishing activity data. Exceptional communication abilities, capable of reviewing complex technical information and conveying it clearly to diverse audiences both in writing and verbally. Proven capacity to organize and manage workloads, effectively prioritize competing demands, and meet multiple deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate effective representation to various stakeholders, including proficient influencing and negotiation abilities. A degree or equivalent in a relevant natural science such as zoology, biology, ecology, fisheries, or environmental science, along with relevant postgraduate experience.

Prerequisites

Proof of right to work in the UK, and residency in the UK. Willingness to undergo a Disclosure Scotland application. Although proficiency in Gaelic is not mandatory, it is a desirable skill to support our commitment to our Gaelic Language Plan.
